The AGP has been developed specifically with your needs in mind. Its aim is to develop commercially focused individuals who have a technical overview of securities services and can demonstrate strong leadership potential. We want you to take responsibility for your own career development and throughout your time on the programme that’s exactly what you’ll be expected to do. You’ll be assigned a mentor and it will be up to you to drive that relationship, and if necessary identify your own needs for any further support.

The AGP will start with a two-month induction programme. It will give you an insight into the wider economic environment, financial markets, investments, regulations, and everything you’ll need to know to do your job. Throughout this phase you’ll also take part in the portfolio management game. Working as part of a team you’ll be given responsibility for a notional £10,000 to invest in UK listed equities. The aim is to make as much from your investment as possible, and learn about markets and influencers as you do so.

Once you’ve completed your induction you’ll spend the remainder of your time in three or four placements. Each one will be different from the last, and every one will be a real role, with genuine responsibility. You’ll be expected to perform, not just watch from the sidelines. With each placement there’ll be recommended reading and viewing material to develop both your commercial acumen and leadership potential. Throughout the scheme you’ll sit your Investment Administration Qualification (IAQ) exams, and by the end you’ll be completely qualified. The IAQ has been designed exclusively for securities administration and operations staff – equipping them with an overview of the financial services industry.

Practically from day one you’ll influence how the job is done. With drive, enthusiasm and fresh ideas you’ll be expected to lead change within the company as we continue to experience rapid and successful growth. And you’ll need strong intellect to pace that change. The whole programme has been designed to set you up for success. It will fast track you through the organisation, provide you with insight and expertise and open many doors for your future career.
